Our Climate is a Blue Ring

The Blue Ring

A symbol of our common commitment to our climate.

Current Status: Beta Test

This project is ready for field testing.

The blue ring is a symbol of our common commitment to our climate. It is simple, easily recognizable, and can connect people, institutions, and solutions as part of a global commitment to a future that is net-zero, resilient, and better.

The beta-test is an invitation to test it out, in particular on social media. Play with the design and the messaging. Send us your designs and comments.

Imagine a universal symbol of our climate and our commitment to protect it. That image is as simple as a blue ring that represents the atmosphere surrounding our planet.

Now imagine that symbol being everywhere: on social media, t-shirts, lawn signs, protest signs, store windows, government and business climate plans and programs, community projects, and associated with climate solutions. Think of it as a universal statement of support for climate leadership and action.

Home | Hart County Solid WasteCan it help? Absolutely!
Think of what this image did to promote recycling around the world. It raised awareness, helped organizations, companies and governments promote their work, and created a visual statement of a common commitment.

Can we do better? Also absolutely!
We can connect the blue ring with common goals for climate action; develop movement-wide campaigns, promote and support climate leadership, support each other in our areas of expertise, support solutions – in particular solutions that connect climate action with social benefit – and turn global despair into hope and action,

The Blue Ring

The blue ring represents our climate (the atmosphere surrounding our planet).

It’s a simple design that anyone can draw or design their own variation (much the same as the 3Rs icon.)  The design was created on Powerpoint (here’s the basic file). The dimensions of the circle are 12.32 cm diameter and a 30 pt outline width. The colour is turquoise (#63CBE8).

Imagine what it can do for us.

From home-made signs to global campaigns, the applications are endless. It can spread mesages of hope, commitment, or challenges, it can support leadership, and, above all, it can connect us in common cause.

Engage
Everyone can, and should, feel that that they are part of a global climate movement.

Through creative designs and adaptations of the blue ring, we can connect climate action with expressions of hope, commitment, and possibility, We can help build the social mandate for leadership and action.

Commit
Every government and business, global to local, should be a leader a global climate movement, leading the way, and helping us all become more climate-friendly.

We can design a movement-wide campaign to build a global climate movement that is all of us working together to help stop climate change.

Challenge
We can focus our protests on the laggards – those governments and companies that have not made a commitment to shift to a net-zero economy and society.

Organize
We can organize support networks, including community action networks and peer networks, to help each other find climate solutions that work for everyone.

Networks also help integrate a climate mandate with other social and economic goals, such as job creation, social equity, and healthy, vibrant communities.

Promote
A movement can also market solutions; solutions that improve our lives and create a new clean economy.

A marketing campaign can enlist local and international companies as allies in transforming our economy.

And if anyone happens to ask “what is a global climate movement?” you can tell them it is all of us working together to solve climate change before it is too late. It is all of us working to find ways to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions, build resilience to climate impacts, and create a better future for all.

What does climate peace mean to you?

On the one hand, it is the peace we need to make with our climate.

On a deeper level, climate peace recognizes that climate action is part of a global peace movement. Peace is an end to violence, whether it is against people or the planet.

Give me a sign!

Signs and banners are a huge part of climate marches, and some of them are truly inspired!

Not everyone will have a sign – so why not make some climate movement signs and hand them out for free. And once the march is over, people can take their signs home to display in their windows or on their front yards.
